The Business of the 21st Century and the Website | Cypran Akubude

Imagine a world without the internet!!! Transportation, communication, awareness of world events, production of goods and services, socialization, education, payment systems, etc. have been made easy and more convenient for people leading to the sprung of a new world generally referred to as “a global village” by scholars and personalities in the scientific world. In case you wonder what a global village is, the definition is provided below:
A global village is the world considered as a single community interconnected by contemporary technology or telecommunication, especially television, computers and the World Wide Web (www). ~ Merriam Webster / Cypran Akubude
We have the television where we can instantly see what is happening all around the world. We have the cars, planes, trains, and other fast means of transportation where we can easily move from nations to nations, or from continents to continents within a short period of time. We have the smart phones where we can literally do almost anything possible.

The greatest invention that we can never lose sight of is the internet which according to me, is the mother of all tech products or services ever created.

Now let’s break the topic down by answering two key questions.
  1. What is a corporate entity?
  2. What is a website?
A corporate entity in this context can be an organization or an institution (SMEs, privately or publicly owned, MNCs) operating either for the purpose of making profit or not.

A website is a central location of various web pages that are all related and can be accessed by visiting the home page using a browser. ~ ComputerHope.com
This definition of a website might be complicated or not easily understood by a person without strong educational background. Therefore, I personally will define a website as below:
A website is a virtual location that provides information to the public about a company, a means of transacting business with the company or the company’s ability to offer other services to prospective customers.
Let’s evaluate data or information that can be found on a corporate website and what makes it a necessity for corporate entities to have.

Accessible Information from a Website
  • Company logo
  • Summary of company operations, history, vision, objective, and mission statement
  • Company’s products and services
  • Founders’ information, board members, and/or key executives
  • Company related news and articles published
  • Employment availability
  • Annual reports, business plan, financial market performance
  • Contact information, etc…

All these set of information accessible from the website evidently show how critical and important an organization needs a website. Below are some of the benefits of having a corporate website:

Benefits of Corporate Having a Corporate Website
  1. Worldwide Audience: The greatest benefit of having a website is the ability to easily conduct international trade. It is the easiest and the most efficient way of reaching customers abroad. A website does not only provide information of your business to customers of your residence but also offers you the ability to connect with customers from foreign countries.
  2. Gathering Feedback from Current and Past Customers: Feedback lets a company know if their customers are happy with the services and customer support they provide. Having a website makes this task much easier for companies. All they have to do is send out a URL to their customers and have them fill out a quick survey online.
  3. Providing Better Support for Customers: Having an online presence as a company offers so much more than just the marketing and gaining more customers. With an increasing demand of smartphones, you are able to provide more customer service through an effective communication system with customer such as product/service price and negotiations.
  4. Cost Effective: On the side of the customer, website minimizes the amount of expense they would have incurred such as visiting the companies physical location for basic enquiries.
  5. 24/7/365 Accessible: A website is always available 24 hours a day, 7 days in a week, and 365 days in a year. Except maybe there is a crash or it is under renovation. This offers customers the flexibility to deal with the company at any time irrespective of which country they are.
  6. Convenient: With the growing prominence of e-commerce businesses, customers does not necessarily need to go around a city or town in search of stores or malls to purchase items. You can just go to google and search for these businesses. All you need to do is evaluate the prices, place an order, provide your residential address, and the goods will be delivered to you within the shortest possible time.
  7. Increased Demand and Sales: Research have shown that having an online presence allows for the demand of more products and services around the clock which directly influences more sales and revenue to the company.
  8. It is clear that if an organization does not have a website, they are missing out opportunities for customers to identify who they are and if they want to spend money with them.
In this era of the world, it is evidently true that a company without a website would hardly keep up with others as competition is at the rise every single day.

Have a great day and kindly checkup my previous articles
